Most people probably know Katja Riemann through her role as a glue-stick-sniffing director Gudrun Gerster in the successful film series "Fack ju Göthe". In addition to acting, however, she is also a singer and author. Katja Riemann was born on November 01, 1963, in Kirchweyhe, a small town near Bremen in Germany, where she grew up as the daughter of a couple of elementary school teachers. She has two siblings, Jochen and Susanne Riemann, who later followed the career of their parents.
Katja wanted something different from the rest of her family members and discovered music for herself early on. As a child, she already played the piano, flute, and guitar. After graduating from the Kooperative Gesamtschule Leeste, she began studying dance pedagogy in northern Germany, in Hamburg. However, Riemann quickly realized that this was not the right thing for her. In her opinion, the profession of a dancer was the hardest in the world. In an interview, she said that "with such training, she could never do what she longed for; dance theater."
As a result, she broke off her studies and temporarily interned at the Westfälisches Landestheater, where she first got some impressions of the world of acting. She developed a great interest in acting and then attended the Hanover University of Music and Media for two years. Then she went to the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich, the academy for performing arts, for another year.
Between 1986 and 1989, she then already had her first theater roles; for example, the famous role as Lieschen in Goethe's "Faust", the blind woman in "Besucher" by Botho Strauß, and the wife of Galy Galy in "Mann ist Mann" by Bertold Brecht. During these years she was active on stage and appeared on television; through a lecturer at the Hanover University of Music and Media, she got the leading role in the film "Summer in Lesmona" produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk in 1987. Her year at the Otto Falckenberg School also brought her a lot in terms of her career. The school works in close cooperation with the "Münchener Kammerspiele" theater, which is why Riemann had the honor of being accepted into the theater's ensemble even before completing her training. The following year, while still in acting school, she won her first Adolf Grimme Award in gold for her role in the six-part film adaptation of "Summer in Lesmoa" by stage and film director Peter Beauvais. She took a semester off from her studies for this role.
After her time in acting schools, Katja Riemann really took off; she managed to find just the right balance between film and acting. She landed many leading as well as supporting roles in German films. For example, she starred in "Abgeschminkt" by Katja von Garnier in 1993, in "Der bewegte Mann" in 1994, a German film comedy by Sönke Wortmann, and in "Bandits", another film by Katja Garnier in 1997. A year later she won the next golden Adolf Grimme Award for her extraordinary performance in the film "Die Apothekerin".
The next film award was practically just around the corner; in 2003 she won the "Best Actress" award for her role in the film drama "Rosenstraße" at the Venice International Film Festival.
Not too much is known about Katja Riemann's private life; what is known is that she has a daughter, now 29, who is active in acting herself. Paula Riemann was born in Munich in 1993. Her father is the German actor Peter Sattmann. Katja met him on the film sets at the time. They had a relationship from 1990 to 1998.
So Paula's interest in acting came early; she was in the thick of it from an early age. Even as a child, she attended her parents' premieres. In 2004, when she was just eleven years old, she made her film debut in the feature film "Bergkristall" alongside her mother. Two years later, she was seen in the well-known film adaptation of "Die Wilden Hühner", based on the novels by Cornelia Funke. For this role, Paula received the film award "Young Actress".
Today Paula Riemann is a well-known German actress and can be seen again and again on television and in the cinema. Today she even works as a film director and video producer.
It is also known that Katja Riemann was in a relationship with the sculptor Raphael Beil for a long time; they are said to have been in a relationship for a whole twelve years. Then in 2020, the separation was announced. However, there are not many details. Since then, there are no new details about the love life of the actress. However, maybe she just keeps it private, which would be quite understandable.
On social media, Katja Riemann is currently very committed to the situation in Iran. On her Instagram account, she draws attention almost daily to how dramatic the situation is and that acting is important. In her captions, she writes moving texts like; "In which world do we want to live, is often asked. In talk shows, books, media. Counter question: what kind of world do we live in?". She has also participated in the #WeAreYourVoice, under which many people campaign for women in Iran. In addition, she is promoting the upcoming demo on Oct. 22, 2022, in Berlin, where many protesters will gather to advocate for the freedom of people in Iran. Katja definitely knows how to use her reach to draw attention to important issues in the world. Many people who are in the public eye and could reach a larger amount of people should take this as an example.
