Why "fake news" are so dangerous and what we can do about it!

In today's society, and especially in the younger generation, people are very strongly influenced by various Internet platforms. Social media is easily accessible to everyone and can be very threatening and harmful at times. Messages and news on these platforms are sometimes not even true. These wrong messages are called Fake News. They are often written in easy language and kept as brief as possible. This means that anyone can read or watch them without further ado, making them easier to reach a large audience. Some rumors and fake news from several celebrities are still not enlightened, which causes a lot of drama. Why not just give the celebrity a call and ask yourself whether the fake news are really true or not? But is that even possible? Yes, now it is! With the unique app Bloggercube, you can ask your favorite star very personal questions and establish direct contact with them. It is the easiest way to contact a celebrity and to communicate with them in private.

What exactly are fake news and how do they spread so quickly?

The so-called "fake news" are false, misleading reports that are exploited by the media. Such false reports can, for example, intentionally give out wrong information with false sources such as quotes or edited images or videos. Often these are simply made-up stories or half-truths that have been pulled out of context. With such posts on social media, the entertainment factor plays a major role; the users should scroll through the false messages as long as possible just to be entertained and to share the posts with their friends and families. Fake news are often there to evoke an emotional reaction from the user. The creators want the people that are viewing the post to react in a shocked, angry, or happy mood in order to pass on the message to others and possibly start a discussion or argument about the subject. People quickly tell their friends or family members about the news and within a few minutes, the whole world knows about it. The false news get more attention, which means even more profit for the creator because they make their money with the clicks. It happens very often that users read these messages or watch and share videos before checking the actual source of it. As a result, fake news spread much faster than complex, truthful reports, which are often referred to as "boring" by these users.

Who is most affected by fake news?

Especially for people who are in the limelight of public life, fake news are a strong threat to their careers. It is not uncommon to hear scandals from stars who lost followers and some of their potential success because of rumors and scandals that are not even true. If something like this happens to your favorite star, you can finally ask him yourself via Bloggercube whether the fake news are true. You can decide for yourself whether you call, video call, or just text him. Because if we're honest, there is no better source to clear up a scandal than to hear it from the stars themselves.

How are “fake news” created?

Such rumors can arise from statements made by “friends” of a celebrity or people who want bad things for that public figure. Often such people pursue the goal of harming the star's career and benefit from it. So when someone posts fake news about a star or an influencer on social media, the message usually spreads very quickly as the media is just waiting to release drama and gossip. This is what the media gets the most attention for and therefore the most profit. These messages are then often provided with lots of pictures that are extremely edited with wild headlines so that the readers are as amused as possible. Publishing and spreading fake news can thus lead to drastic consequences. An example of this is the team blocking certain YouTube channels for violating their terms for misinformation policy.

Influencers and other stars are then rashly condemned and criticized by social media, even by their own fans. Sometimes waves of hateful comments emerge among the star's Instagram posts, to the point where it is no longer acceptable. What many people who share these messages often fail to understand is that it can be immensely damaging not only to their careers but also to their mental health. Celebrities are human too, which many people often just forget. In most cases, it is not even possible for a celebrity to correct these fake news because the people already formed a different picture of the person after the news and do not want to change it again. In addition, truthful corrections usually get less attention than the previously widespread fake news, which is why it is not possible for stars to continue as before after a major scandal.

But what can we do to prevent fake news from spreading and possibly harming the people that are affected?

First, you have to understand how to recognize these fake news and differentiate it from the truth. You can of course do that by checking the source and seeing where the information you just read came from. If some information doesn't sound right at first glance and is very unlikely to be true, then you should look for the actual truth behind it. The false news are often written very dubious and sometimes contain spelling errors. At an early age, teenagers and children should begin to learn and understand how to distinguish fake news from real statements in order to build better media literacy in general.

The easiest way to tell whether the fake news are really "fake" is to communicate with the influencers and celebrities themselves. If you want to do your favorite celebrity a favor, don't always believe what's on the internet! Get into direct contact with him and just ask the celebrity yourself.
